Did you know that Elvis Presley had a history with the Ryman Auditorium? Over 70 years ago, the “King of Rock and Roll” took the stage for a one-night-only performance.

Back when the Ryman was the home of the Grand Ole Opry, Elvis was invited to be part of the show. Legend says he was nervous out of fear that the crowd was going to hate him and his music. And although he didn’t get the best reception from the audience, Opry manager Jim Denny thought “This boy’s not bad,” but didn’t quite fit the form of the Opry.

None-the-less, the Ryman was a small part of launching Elvis’ career. Within two years of his Opry debut, he would play another show with national reach – The Ed Sullivan Show.

And as they say, the rest is history.

During Elvis Week at The Ryman, we’ll celebrate his only performance at the historic auditorium, as well as the life and music of the Country Music Hall of Fame member. Experience how his unique sound was rooted in country and gospel music, hear stories from that fateful night, and see photos and artifacts from his storied life as one of America’s most influential musicians.

Elvis Week at the Ryman is just one piece of Nashville’s deep history of music. Go deep into the legacy of music’s melting pot during a tour of the Ryman Auditorium.
