Hailed as “a war cry and a love song,” This Love Thing, the album executively produced by Drea d’Nur and Rami Nashashibi, explores themes of brokenness, repair, and hope “through the turbulent and triumphant expressions of love.”

Released in October 2020, the album brings together the powerful lead vocals and musical direction of celebrated singer, songwriter, activist, and non-profit executive Drea d’Nur and original songs and strings of IMAN Executive Director and MacArthur “Genius” Fellow Rami Nashashibi. Together with special guest appearances from artists like Grammy-nominated singer and emcee Maimouna Youssef (Mumu Fresh), Def Jam Poet Amir Sulaiman, and string arrangements by award-winning Rootstock Republic, This Love Thing Live carefully weaves together an emotionally riveting production that will leave audiences inspired and moved for years to come.

Jeff Miers, Music and Arts Critic for Buffalo News, called the album “a soul-stirring marriage of R&B, gospel, neo-soul, and hip-hop stylings thematically linked by ruminations on love’s role in personal and communal healing.”

This Love Thing Live debuted in October 2021 with a stunning intimate performance in Chicago, featuring an 11-piece band, ambient strings, and a rousing chorus, attended by notable individuals from across the country. Among the most moving of the evening’s testimonies was a statement from Ms. Geneva Reed-Veal, mother of Sandra Bland: “I am forever changed … You have created a masterpiece project with a cure for what the world needs today: Love! A return to God and a true desire to love all people is what your project can do.”

This Love Thing Live is the first original touring production presented by the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN), a non-profit community organization that fosters health, wellness and healing in the inner-city by organizing for social change, cultivating the arts, and operating a holistic health center.
